challenge
Located in the heart of Liverpool’s heritage area, this Georgian terrace property was once derelict and in need of a complete rebuild. The new building had to be designed with respect to the historical architecture of the local area, and AAC Waterproofing was brought on board to assist with the design process and build of the roof section.
our approach
To maintain the traditional aesthetic of the local area, we proposed a single-ply membrane with standing seams for the mansard roof. The selected waterproofing system was the Protan 1.6mm SE membrane, which was mechanically fixed through a 90mm PUR insulation board and LDPE vapour control layer into the metal deck. By using two different shades of membrane, we were able to accentuate the dormer windows within the rooftop mansard.
As a mid-terrace property with little open space to the rear and fronting directly onto a public pavement, the logistics of carrying out the work were complex. However, we maintained close communication with the main contractor to ensure that the roofing aspect of the project was carried out quickly and smoothly. Our goal was to provide a dry environment for the internal trades and ensure long-term waterproofing security for the building.
